The Archäological Open-Air Museum Oerlinghausen is a lively museum where history becomes tangible.
Together with the design agency KOOP from Bremen, which developed the concept and UX/UI design, we created a website that brings the museum’s unique character to life.
The interface deviates from a standard structure, sliding in panels from the side to offer visitors a playful and intuitive way of navigating. Behind this visual simplicity lies a carefully built WordPress environment with custom-made functionality.
A specially developed plugin allows the museum to easily manage and publish activities and events held on the grounds. In addition, a system was built for bookable excursions and programmes, enabling both individual visitors and school groups to submit booking requests online.
Collaboration and accessibility
The project was realised in close cooperation with the museum team. Staff members responsible for the content received personal training, allowing them to maintain the website independently.
The website was thoroughly tested on iPhone, iPad, various Android devices, laptops, Mac and PC. Extra attention was given to accessibility, ensuring that visitors with disabilities can also use the content comfortably.
A balance between content and experience
The design offers space for both information and experience – just like the museum itself. A clear structure, accessible navigation, and subtle transitions make for a pleasant and contemporary digital visit.
